What can I expect at an orthodontist consultation?

My wonderful dentist has decided to refer me to an orthodontist, and I have a consultation with one at the end of this month. What can I expect to happen during the appointment? I recall the hygienist at my last dentist appointment saying something about x-rays that show your whole mouth as opposed to your average bitewings, but that's all I'm relatively sure of at this point. So, what else can I expect to happen at the consultation?
